The Falun Gong spiritual movement is banned in China and its adherents have been persecuted since 1999. Live organ harvesting has been rife since 2006 in China’s hospitals and in detention centers tens of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners have “disappeared.” As part of the  Hong Kong Humans series, David Missal examines the struggle against Anti- Falun Gong protestors on the city’s streets.

Falun Gong’s most fundamental principles are Truth, Compassion Tolerance using meditation and study of the main text by Li Hongzhi called Zhuan Falun to upgrade a practitioners moral standards. The exercises help clear the body of impurities and help to return the body to a state of health.

Falun Gong practitioners have encountered restrictions in Hong Kong as a result of political pressure from Beijing. The treatment of Falun Gong by Hong Kong authorities has often been used as a bellwether to gauge the integrity of the one country two systems model.

In 2010, Hong Kong immigration officials denied visas to several production staff with the Falun Gong-affiliated Shen Yun dance company, which was scheduled to perform in January 2010.
