Symbolism of the Lotus Flower

1 min read

The lotus flower, also called Nelumbo nucifera, is known as a water lily. The roots grow from a pond or river’s bottom and the leaves stick to the surface of the water while the flowers grow from the stems a few centimeters above the water surface.

The lotus flower has several meanings and is associated with Buddhism. It represents detachments, purity, creation, and cosmic renewal. Most of the Buddha deities are pictured with a lotus flower.
